If You’re Not Getting Carried Away, You’re Doing It Wrong…

Mark 8:34-35

When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.

If you’re not getting carried away, you’re doing it all wrong.
Following Jesus costs everything. He isn’t interested in excited admirers who practice everything in moderation.
He wants completely committed followers who get carried away and deny themselves everyday.

ANYONE can follow Jesus.
Not married but having sexual relations?
It doesn’t matter, He said ANYONE can follow Him.
BUT, it will cost everything.
Jesus > money.
Jesus > that movie or show that entertains sin.
Jesus > family.
Jesus > everything.

It’s all or nothing with Jesus. He isn’t interested in the lukewarm (Rev. 3).

When we truly take up our Cross, we will willingly give up any and everything that’s hindering our relationship with Jesus.

The disciples chose Jesus over convenience.

The disciples chose Jesus over comfort.

The disciples chose Jesus over staying behind to live with their families.

Of course I’m not saying leave your husband and newborn child, and hop on a plane to a third world country, never to see them again!

Our lives are Ministries, and you can SO serve God right where He has you planted. (That’s a post for a different time 😉.)

Matthew 10:22 You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.

Matthew 10:34-36
Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn
“‘a man against his father,
    a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—
a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’

What Jesus is saying here: it will cost everything to follow Me. Many people won’t like it. Stand firm, pursue me with your whole life; you will be saved. If you’re not willing to take up your cross for Me, you are not fit to be mine.

Jesus. Jesus. Jesus!
He wants you get carried away!
Read His Word.
LIVE out His Word.
Share the Gospel!

The world as a whole is in need of great revival. And it simply starts with us, wholly, following Jesus.

  1. I totally agree, I just deleted my facebook last week because I honestly feel like it’s been a big distraction to me amongst other things I need to remove from my life. I want to be all the way involved, yet I’m always so distracted.
